Week 8

Materials

The second task of mine for the week was to get a couple final material updates in so my teammate Drew could start getting some final comps going.

There wasn’t a huge issue with the materials but the AMG mug specifically, the logo wasn’t visible in our render because it was only on one side of the mug so I just copied it over to the other side. I also created a mask so the inner part of the mug would be glassy and the outside would be more matte or satin.


HeadLights

My method for the headlights is actually much more simple than I expected it to be. Somewhere down the line I overcomplicated it and I just wasn’t able to get it to work. But more or less what I did was unpack the car alembic file, then I selected the specific pieces of geo I need to apply the mesh light to, then I converted that to polygons and made sure the normals were all oriented the correct way. That’s about it for the initial setup. I ended up creating two separate groups, one for the headlights and another for the taillights.

My teammate Phirada also whipped up a nice method for parenting spotlights to the car that actually travel with it and stay oriented the correct direction.


My main tasks for this week are to get the headlights working as well as a few final material updates.
