Week 4 Vis

Car

One of the biggest issues I ran into this week was with the car. The car as a whole needs a good bit of clean up. There is so much geo and so many little pieces, there might even be duplicate geo but I could be mistaken. It has made texting it a bit of a nightmare but I plan to work with the team to clean it up and make things easier for all of us.

Assets References

These are some different references I gathered for objects in the environment.

Unreal Previs

I tried doing a version of our team’s previs in Unreal and it did not go quite as I had expected. Importing everything in went smoothly for the most part, then the I got to the car. At this point everything basically came to a screeching hault. First of all, the car isn’t one mesh so when I brought it into Unreal, it imported what felt like 200 different static meshes. As a result that made animating the car exponentially more difficult and in the end kept me from moving forward. I tried grouping all the geo together within Unreal and adding a transform to that group in sequencer but none of the keyframes worked. I then tried combining the mesh in Maya and exporting that out but every time I went to export it froze and I had to kill it from task manager. There is a chance I am overlooking something very simple but considering how much easier it is to work with the car in Maya on top of the fact I was able to get all shots rendered out, I don’t think Unreal will be a good option for my team.
